In this course, you will gain knowledge, skills, and ideas about some of the specific musical qualities that make up genres, and how to incorporate different genres and styles into your music therapy practice. Your instructor Nathan will review examples on guitar, piano, and voice, to elucidate the numerous ways these goals can be achieved. Emphasis will be placed on the chords, rhythms, and musical qualities suggested to maximize authenticity in those genres and styles. Discussions will be had about the complexities of each genre, and how “mastery” and “proficiency” are lifelong goals. You will also learn ways to incorporate modes into their clinical work using different genres and styles, and how to alter one chord progression to sound like multiple genres.
This course is approved by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) for 3 CMTEs.
