This class serves to demonstrate direct applications of music therapy work with clients in neurologic populations, focusing on their unique recovery needs and effective intervention planning. You will explore how the 10 principles of neuroplasticity underpin neurologic recovery and how music therapy aligns with these principles. By the end, you will have a solid understanding of various neurologic conditions and practical resources to support treatment.

You will also have a variety of session ideas to implement right away with your clients. Incorporating music therapy into your work with these clients will support neuroplasticity and recovery. You will walk away with:

  • 12+ session ideas you can implement immediately with your clients, based upon neurologic goals
  • A cheat sheet describing *exactly* what to say + present to all the various therapy teams when requesting referrals, so you start receiving proper referrals that enable the clients who need MT the most, to receive services
  • A plan for creating goals and objectives for each neurologic population
  • A “What is MT – neuro style” PDF to help advocate for music therapy in neurologic environments
  • Minimum of 3 outcome assessment measures to use in your work such as the A-O Rome Scale, so that you’re treating your patients with full support and confidence
  • A terminology handout with working knowledge of various neurologic diagnoses and accompanying goals
  • An action plan to engage in an interdisciplinary team who works with neurologic populations
