Free October Session Idea: Trick or Treat, Jack

Use this fun rewrite of Hit the Road Jack with your clients to sing about Halloween! Discuss their favorite parts of Halloween, favorite trick or treat snacks, or favorite costume ideas. Spooky seasonal fun for your themed session.

Instructions

1. Introduce the tune “Trick or Treat Jack”
   • Hand out lyric sheets if appopriate so client(s) can sing along
     • When teaching, you can opt to just teach the chorus so client(s) can sing along each time the chorus happens, but then you sing the verses.
   • Pass out instruments so client(s) can play along if desired as well. This is a great time for those lollipop drums and colorful shakers!
     
2. If using printable images:
   • Use candy images to have client(s) trick or treat.
     • have buckets of some sort of maybe drums they can collect candy in.
   • Use Costume images to have client(s) pick a costume that they’d like to “dress up as”
     • You can also use costume images to encourage discussion about what client(s) are going to be for Halloween, what their favorite costume is, have them get creative coming up with costume ideas, etc.
       
3. Another Adaptation:
   • Use the song as a rewrite.
     • You can keep the chorus and have client(s) rewrite their own verses or add verses to those already provided
