Shana Oshiro, MT-BC will present Race & #RealTalk, a program that confronts the gap between communities caused by racism and segregation which makes it challenging for people of color to enter into and fully participate in spaces dominated by white culture and authority. Get ready to brainstorm and learn how a model community music therapy program facilitates positive social change.

Songwriting & Hope
with Tracy Richardson, Ph.D., MT-BC
50 minutes
Dr. Tracy Richardson walks our community through a songwriting exercise, focused on acknowledgement of hardship and hope during these challenging times. We will focus on how to use repetition and simplicity to create a song together quickly. At the end we will have one rocking, awesome, community-written song!
Pandemic Pivoting Panel A: Clinical Practice

A panel of music therapy clinicians bring their diverse experiences to the table to share what has worked and the lessons they have learned through pivoting their practice to meet the ever-changing demands of 2020. Each panelist will share their clinical experience, discuss considerations for the future, and answer questions about maintaining a thriving practice during a pandemic.

Featured Speakers

Shana Oshiro, MT-BC
Shana earned her Vocal performance degree from Morgan State University. She is the bass of Harmony, Inc’s 2012 International Harmony Queen quartet, Epic. She holds a Master’s certificate degree from Shenandoah Conservatory in Music Therapy, where she is also pursuing her Masters in Music Therapy, and is a board-certified music therapist with experience working with children, adolescents, adults and the elderly with a wide range of abilities. Shana still has a passion for classical singing, performing local concerts and some of the Baltimore Symphony’s pops concerts.

Tracy Richardson, Ph.D., MT-BC
Tracy is Dean of Graduate Therapy and Counseling Programs and Director of the M.A. in Music Therapy at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. She is a Professor of Music Therapy and has taught at SMWC for 25 years. Dr. Richardson spearheaded the creation of the M.A. in Music Therapy and the Music Therapy Equivalency Distance program, unique programs allowing students to pursue education in a hybrid format. She serves the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) as an Assembly Delegate and member of the Commission on the Education and Clinical Training of the 21st Century Music Therapist. As an active singer-songwriter, she has released 3 CDs of original songs including her most recent work, “Superwoman Blues,” recorded in Nashville, TN. Her first book (“Who Moved My Cape?!: Letting Go of Your Superwoman Expectations”) addresses cultural messages aimed at women.
